But while Sola, who moved to England from Ukraine, says the posh areas of the country were cleaner than her home city Kiev, the idea of entering into a marriage through the agency that arranged the move was far less appealing: "I feel I didn't get the chance to have the kind of choices other girls have. If it was up to me, I would date a few guys and not be in a rush to get married, so I could look at more options. "A lot of women choose to marry someone outside their own country because they want an exotic man who can speak languages, which is really hot," she says, her eyes sparkling. And that could be one reason, at the age of 25, Sola has decided to risk losing the full allowance, home and status that a British husband has already offered her, and allow herself another chance to find romance on a more equal footing. "When I first arrived I went straight to a bar with friends to hook up, I had never done that before and it was crazy. It felt like a big step to just go out and meet people, rather than go through this agency, where I wasn't involved in making decisions that are the biggest thing I've done in my life." Now in London, Sola feels more independent than before she made the move, but worries that being a housewife would stifle any hopes of a real romance: "A marriage would have been easier, it would be a life that I have already known. My home life was very much what you could expect if I lived here with an English guy and that life would suit my personality. In fact it is exactly what I wanted, which is why I considered it in the first place.
